Stacey Lynn Brown

When it came time, I would leave the South

When it came time, I would leave the South,
trailing a Uhaul

behind my Cadillac
and driving west til the land ran out.

There’s something unnamable
at the point where all you see

is water ahead and what you’ve left
behind, your shadow so soon

to catch up with you
as the sun sinks finally down.
