Major Jackson's collection of poetry,
Leaving Saturn (University of Georgia Press, 2001), a Cave Canem Poetry Prize selection, was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award. His work has appeared in
Callaloo,
Grand Street,
The New Yorker,
Triquarterly, among other literary publications. He has garnered recognition with a Pew Fellowship in the Arts, Whiting Writers' Award, and Witter Bynner Fellowship from the Library of Congress. His second collection of poetry is
Hoops (W.W. Norton, 2006). He teaches at the University of Vermont and Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
